The Case for Bookends

Create bookends for your day.

By creating a regular routine to start and end your day with, you can take control of the chaos. And while yes, there are studies to show that waking up at the same time every day is physically beneficial for so many reasons (Sleep Foundation) however, I’m more concerned here with WHAT you’re doing before bed and upon waking than what TIME you’re doing them.

Waking up at the same time every day doesn’t solve the half an hour to 45 minutes lost “deciding what to wear”, for example.

Consider this: Before bed, set clothes out for the next morning (and commit to them), pack your lunch, review your next day’s calendar and visualize the day, unplug and even read a few pages of a good book and practice gratitude. If you have kids or a significant other that you share duties with, do this for them as well.

But WAIT! What to do with all the extra time in the morning if you’re doing it all the night before? Create a routine for that too! Now in the morning you have more time to work on self-care, study, work-out, and simply start the day more prepared and relaxed.

I call my personal morning routine the power hour. 20 minutes each of mind, body, and soul. It has been lifechanging to add in these bookmarks and I hope you’ll try it. After all …it’s About Time.
